The bugs published on this page are mainly computational bugs that affect the calculation results. There is a bug fix patch for each bug, or at least a plan for when the bug will be fixed.

As a service to our customers we also make patches for other bugs reported to us. We do not publish these patches on this page but collect them in an Excel document found here. In this document there is an indication of how safe a patch is. These patches might not always be well tested and should only be installed by customers experiencing the specific problem that the patch fixes.

Service Pack
With certain intervals we collect fixed bugs into a Service Pack (SP) that is installed in the same way as a new version. A Service Pack includes fixes for both computational bugs and other bugs.


February 6, 2024

Roof window: If a zone has an inclined (> 10°) roof window (e.g. in an atrium) the distribution of the transmitted direct radiation to the different zone surfaces may in some cases become incorrect. This is most likely to happen if the zone height is low compared to the width or length and the inclination of the roof is low.

Leaks/openings between zones: If a leak is inserted in the ceiling of the bottom zone and another in the floor of the top zone, the air exchange between the two zones may become overrated. Smaller differences in air exchange between two zones may also occur depending on in which zone the leaks or an opening is inserted.

Floor heating/cooling: If a floor with floor heating/cooling is connected to the ground, the floor heating/cooling layer is immersed in the construction "External constructions" instead of "Constructions toward ground". If these constructions are different the heat transmission through the floor can be over- or underestimated.

Localization Switzerland: In the calculation standard SIA 380/2:2022, the setpoint in the basic design heating type was corrected. In addition, the area calculation of floors against ambient air is fixed.

Anpassning Sverige: För BBR-versionerna 21-28 redovisas ett för högt U-värde för ytor mot ouppvärmda zoner eftersom det tillkommande värmemotståndet från den ouppvärmda zonen inte medräknas. BBR-version 29 beräknas korrekt. Dessutom medräknas luftläckaget felaktigt om det finns en öppen dörr mellan uppvärmda och ouppvärmda zoner vilket leder till ett för högt U-värde för den gemensamma konstruktionsdelen. Detta fel gäller alla BBR-versioner.

Localization Switzerland: In the calculation standard SIA 382/2:2011, the SIA 380/2:2022 setpoints with basic design heating type and without control deviation are used instead of the zone setpoints. This can lead to incorrect heating and cooling setpoints in the calculation standard SIA 382/2:2011.

Detailed window: When the inner window of a ventilated construction is opened and the floor of the ventilated construction is above ground level, the pressure outside the window is set too low, which may affect the air exchange depending on the existence of other leaks or openings in the zone to the outside or to other zones.

For internal mass (furniture, convective internal mass, extra wall mass), the calculated heat capacity is less than set in the construction. The effect of this is negligible in most cases but can for settings of large mass heat capacities damp the room air temperature swing too little and lead to a slight overestimation of heating and cooling.

When using an AHU with enthalpy wheel there is no cold recovery of the exhaust air. This may lead to an overestimation of the cooling load.

ASHRAE 90.1 extension: When the Baseline Building is created, exhaust air energy recovery is not included for system 1-4, even if the conditions in Table 6.5.6.1 of the ASHRAE 90.1 2010-standard are met. This leads to an underestimation of the energy use in the Baseline building.

Detailed window: For a window with a window integrated shading of the type venetian blind or shutter, the solar transmittance may be overestimated and the solar reflectance underestimated, which may lead to a too high cooling and/or a too low heating demand. The error may be of a similar magnitude as a -5 degree error in slat angle might lead to.

Detailed window: For windows with a partly IR transmitting shading, e.g. a non-closed venetian blind, the solar gain may be underestimated for an exterior and overestimated for an interior shading. This may lead to too high or too low heating or cooling demand depending on the shading position.

Detailed window: When choosing "Wall" as a "Ventilated construction" and having more than a single window on the wall, no error message is given. The model for Ventilated construction is limited to a single inner window.

Detailed window: For windows with a high U-value, mainly single pane windows, the heat losses may in some cases become overestimated, which could lead to too high heating demands and/or too low cooling demands in the simulation results.

For a building without external windows the first chosen month's climate data is used for all months when running a cooling or overheating simulation. This might lead to incorrect results.

Version Manager: In some cases (mainly in projects with multiple sub-versions) some versions are incorrectly marked as modified after simulation (version name is gray in the project's summary table). The result shown in the project's summary table and the model's summary and details tab can be incorrect for these versions. This can lead to misinterpretation of results.

Anpassning Sverige: Redovisningen av U-medelvärde blir felaktigt om man använder rumsmultiplikatorer, "Antal zoner av denna typ", för rum som angränsar mot ej uppvärmda ytor. Det finns även ett problem med ytor kopplade till krypgrund som får genereringen av rapporter att krascha.

The transparency setting of imported shading objects is ignored if the shading object is saved with a reference to the geometry file and not in the system file (*.idm), i.e. if the checkbox in Options > Preferences > CAD Import is unchecked and the imported object has more vertices than the given number (default 10000). This can lead to under-estimation of daylight levels, solar heating and cooling loads.

A balcony may, after saving and reopening a model, incorrectly be placed on the building body if less than 50% of the section area of the balcony covers the zone, e.g. when a balcony with very small height is placed just below the zone floor; or incorrectly be placed on the external zone wall if the balcony is placed higher than 1 m below the ceiling of the zone when there is no zone above. This can lead to over- or under-estimation of daylight levels, solar heating and cooling loads.

When using a window with a venetian blind in a Daylight calculation, the given transmittance value for the glazing to Radiance is calculated for 45° slat angle, regardless of what angle is set, unless the venetian blind is added as a venetian shade layer in the glazing.

The last input in a form can be lost if the project is saved immediately after the input, before switching to another field or pressing Enter. The problem does not occur for dialogs (with OK and Cancel buttons). A similar error can occur in floor plan where the last input on the side bar can be lost when pressing Done in the Editing dialog. This may lead to unexpected results if the project is simulated without the last input.

Radiance daylight calculation: If a daylight calculation is performed for a zone after changing the name of the zone and if the 3D tab was opened before the name change, the calculated daylight factor or illuminance level will be too low. If the user after the name change goes to the 3D tab and does View > Refresh or closes and reopens the model, this does not happen.

3D view: When the 3D view is loaded or refreshed the 3D geometry is unnecessarily redrawn a large number of times. This can lead to long loading and refreshing times for large models which can be a significant inconvenience. It will not have any effect on any calculation results.

Defining constructions: The warning that a wall/slab construction is defined differently in adjacent zones, shown when running a simulation, has accidently been removed. Radiance daylight calculation: If integrated shading of the type Micro lamella is used in the detailed window model, some of these windows may get zero daylight transmission due to a memory handling problem in our 3D environment. The problem occurs randomly and is not controllable by the user. If you do get light through the window, it should be correct.

Radiance daylight calculation: If a surface material with a specularity value (the amount of shininess) larger than 0 is used for non-transparent walls or shading objects the reflection is underestimated. For shiny materials like mirror and metal surfaces this can lead to an underestimation of the daylight levels. For a transparent surface material with only specular reflection like Plexiglas the daylight calculation is incorrect.

Room units: If an IDA ICE model with a Water Radiator or a Cooling Device is saved as a packed file in an earlier version and then opened in IDA ICE 4.8, the properties of these room units will be changed to the ones of the default device type. This will affect the design power of the room unit. The default device usually has a larger capacity, so this problem has practical consequences mostly when the amount of room unit heat exchange capacity is critical, such as in heat pump applications.

Lokalisierung Schweiz: Wenn im Modell eine wassergeführte Kühlung definiert ist, wird diese für das automatisch erstellte Modell für den Nachweis SIA 180 C.1 „sommerlicher Wärmeschutz“ nicht entfernt. Das Nachweismodell weist somit weiterhin eine Kühlung aus, welche manuell zu entfernen ist.

Exhaust air heat recovery (new AHU and corresponding ESBO plant component in 4.7.1):

  • The mass flow in the liquid circuit may become wrong.

  • The design temperature difference parameter in the ESBO plant is not available at the standard level.

  • Design conditions that do not lead to condensation are rejected.

The model still delivers physically correct results, but the design operating point becomes different from that intended.

Integrated shadings in the outer window of a double façade:

  • For a venetian blind, the slat angle is always 45°, regardless of set angle.

  • If the control “Sun” is chosen, the shading is always drawn.

  • If the control “Sun AND Schedule” is set, the shading is controlled by the irradiation level on the inside of the window, regardless of what is chosen.

  • If “New custom control” (ShadeCtrlMacro) is chosen and “Combined with built-in light control” is marked, the light control is ignored.

Deutsche Lokalisation, DIN 4108-2 Add-In: Wenn für eine Zone des Ausgangsmodells unter "In Betrieb" die Voreinstellung "Wenn belegt" durch einen Zeitplan ersetzt wird so wird diese Einstellung im DIN 4108-2 Nachweismodel beibehalten. Korrekte Übertemperaturgradstunden erhält man nur wenn im Nachweismodell der Wert wieder auf "wenn belegt" eingestellt wird.

Daylighting: When selecting “Daylighting” in the “Requested output” under the “Simulation” tab, a simplified calculation of the illuminance in zones with an occupant present is performed. When using the detailed window model with an integrated shading that diffuses the light, the solar (total shortwave) properties are used instead of the visual properties for the diffused light. Note that this bug does not affect the daylight calculation performed under the “Daylight” tab.

External shading: When setting the control of an external solar shading to a value in between 1 and 0 (which are the values normally used for on/off), the result deviate from the expected weighted average of the results for 1 and 0.

Miljöbyggnad: The value of “g-syst”, given in “Miljöbyggnad”, includes, when using the standard window, solar heat transferred though the frame, which is not according to the rules of “Miljöbyggnad”.

Deutsche Lokalisation, DIN 4108-2 Add-In: Bei Nichtwohngebäuden wird der Zeitplan "din41082-7-18 weekdays" konstant als "0" angesetzt, auch wenn wochentags zwischen 07:00 Uhr und 18:00 Uhr der Wert "1" angezeigt wird. Dies hat fundamentale Auswirkungen auf die Berechnung.
